Speaking at the event tagged: “National Workers Thanksgiving Service” in Port Harcourt, held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Mile three, Diobu in Port Harcourt, President of the Port Harcourt Conference of the Church, Pastor NNUNUKWE ANYALEBECHI explained that the Church decided to celebrate workers and pray for them, in recognition of their important roles in the development of the society.
“We gathered them today to encourage them to look up to God, no matter the struggles that they go through, they should remain steadfast and focused.
“As they work, they should know that they are serving God and humanity and that God is with them. God rewards diligent and sincere workers”.
On his part, President of the Easter Nigeria Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor BASSEY UDOH while delivering a sermon titled GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS, said God is faithful to sustain, supply needs, pardon sins and provide escape roots for His children in times of danger.
Pastor UDOH noted that the workers deserved the pre-May Day celebration because, according to him “there is dignity in LABOUR”
“There are things God instituted in the beginning, number one; marriage, number two; he asked them to go and teal the ground (work) and number three; on the Seventh Day, Worship. So, we are celebrating workers today because there is “Dignity in Labour”.
“Today, we are encouraging workers not just to occupy offices but to be involved in services, not just to occupy positions but to be involved in performances, we are encouraging workers to make sure they have three qualities: character, commitment and competence”.
In their responses, chairperson of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Rivers State, Comrade BEATRICE ITUBO and his Trade Union Congress counterpart, represented by the Secretary, Comrade OBI FORTUNE thanked the church for the honour done the workers in the state.
