ABE DECRIES HARASSMENT OF BUSINESS BY RIVERS YOUTHS

Senator MAGNUS ABE says the attitude and actions of some youths in Rivers State, who harass the business community either in the name of task force seeking to enforce their rights is the major reason investors are moving out of the state.

Senator MAGNUS ABE made the observation at an interactive session with youths and young professionals in Rivers State over the weekend in Port Harcourt.

According to him, “the reason businesses are living our state sometime is because there is too much interruption.

“You go to work, youths came enter your office, harass you, thinking that they are trying to create jobs for other youths. You’re scaring the investor.

“Employment is a by-product of business and the purpose of business is profit. If we run a society in which people can put in their efforts and their efforts are rewarded by visible return, they will expand their business in order to make more money and in expanding their business, they employ more people and more value will be created”.

ABE also said institutions need to be put in place that would handle and attend to issues relating empowerment and employment generation for youths and other matter in the state.

He said “Our responsibility as a society, as a community will be to prepare our youths and make them competitive so that when opportunities come up, people don’t take you because you’re from Rivers State, people don’t take because you’re from Ogoni, people don’t take you because you’re from Kalabari, people don’t take you because you’re from Abua, people take you because you’re the best.

“So, if we want our youths to have that advantage, we must create institutions, a system that actually brings out thee best in our children”.

Our correspondent reports that Senator ABE emphasized that no youths in the state ought call anyone in government for help before he/she could receive help, if institutions are out in place and functional.
