HOW APITI OF RUMUEME KINGDOM BECAME MY FATHER ~Retired Police AIT

A Retired Assistant InspectorGeneral of Police, Hilda Harrison has narrated how she met and adopted the Late Nyewen-Eli, Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom, His Majesty, Omunakwe Nyeche Nsirim as her father.

 

The Retired Police AIG, while speaking at the Variety Night of Tribute in his honour, organized by Rivers State Government at the Obi Wali International Conference Center in Port Harcourt, explained that she first met the Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom at a Police station in Diobu, Port Harcourt in cause of her career.


She further noted that after listening to the explanation of the royal father in a case he and some persons brought to the station and how he mentioned the offences committed by the suspects, she wondered if he was a lawyer to know that much.

According to Retired AIG Hilda Harrison:

“I came face to face with the colossus, Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom at Diobu Police station in the cause of my career in 1988.

“By the nuggets of wisdom God had put in him, he was quick to comprehend so many things and that was how my relationship with him as a father started.

 

“In him was combined industry of bigmanship, statesmanship, traditionalism, friendship and conviviality.

 

“The Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom, as friendly as he was; indeed was a dogged and consummate fighter for his rights, for the rights of his kingdom, for the rights of persons in Rivers State and as a Nationalist”.

On his part, a former governorship aspirant in Rivers State and a leader in Ikwerre ethnic nationality Ikechi Wigwe popularly known as I. H Wigwe, who said he was a beneficiary of the good will of the Kate Apiti, further noted that Omunakwe Nyeche Nsirim made himself approachable by those, who came across him.

“The Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom was a great leader in the entire Ikwerre ethnic nationality.

 

“His approach towards solving problems was commendable. In social, political and business matters, he made himself approachable by all and sundry; so he had a lot of present day youths, politicians, governors and lawyers around him. I was personally a recipient of his goodwill”.


Personalities including Governor Nyesom Wike, former Governor Peter Odili, former President-General of Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention Worldwide, Professor Otonte Nduka resoectively made speeches at the event.

BraveViews correspondent reports that the event featured several dances, comedy mock wrestling among other events.

 

The event was anchored by a former Commissioner for Information and Communications in Rivers State, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim.

Some dignitaries who attended the programme, the Rivers State governor-elect, Siminalayi Fubara, former Deputy Speaker, House of Reps, former Senator John Azuta Mbata among others

The Apiti of Rumueme Kingdom, HM, Omunakwe Nyeche Nsirim died at the age of 96 years.
