OGONI YOUTHS COMMEND PRESIDENT BUHARI OVER RELEASE OF FUNDS FOR PROJECTS IN OGONI LAND

 

The apex youth body in Ogoni ethnic nationality known as the Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) has commended President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, the Honourable Minister of Environment and the HYPREP Project Coordinator for steps taken to ensure the success of the Ogoni cleanup project and to better the lot of the people of Ogoni land.

The commendation comes just as the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the Memorandum, which was presented by the Honorable Minister of Environment, Dr. Abdullahi H. Mohammend to FEC for the construction of the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER) and a hundred (100) bed specialist Hospital on the soil of Ogoni land.

 

The President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF), Chief Comrade Legborsi Yamaabana in an interview with newsmen at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, described the action of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as a welcome development and a pointer to the fact that the Federal Government is committed to the success of the clean-up project in Ogoni land.

The Ogoni Youth Leader and Mene Legbo Zuguru of Ogoniland, Legborsi Yamaabana particularly lauded the Honorable Minister of Environment for demonstrating avowed commitment towards the clean-up of Ogoni environment, since he assumed office as the Supervising Minister for the clean-up project.

He described him as a friend of Ogoni people and a true Nigerian patriot.

Yamaabana stressed that: “The Centre of excellence for Environmental Restoration, when complemented, would provide training, create employment opportunities and enhance the capacity and the skills of Ogoni youths.

 

“Furthermore, it will become a model for environmental restoration and attract international attention while the importance of the specialist hospital can not be overemphasized”.

 

The Ogoni Youth President, Legborsi Yamaabana advised the HYPREP and the contractors that will handle the projects to ensure youths and stakeholders’ participation as well as execution of their Corporate Social Responsibilities

The visionary Ogoni Youth President, Legborsi Yamaabana in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of
OYF Worldwide, Lene Kingsley Lekue, ESQ, urged Ogoni people not to engage in any legal suit against the projects but come together as one to harmonize all differences that may arise and rally support for HYPREP to ensure expeditious execution of the projects.
