RIVERS STATE POLICE COMMAND ORDERS TACTICAL TEAM TO RESCUE KIDNAPPED JOURNALIST, AS NUJ SAYS HER KIDNAP IS WICKED ACT

 

A female Journalist, Mrs PRIESTBA ANTHONY NWOKOCHA, working with Rivers State Broadcasting Corporation (RSBC) was kidnapped on Friday evening, July 21, 2023 along slaughter to YKC axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State between the hours of 7pm to 8am.

The news of her kidnap was made public by her colleague in the office in a WhatsApp message.

The message reads below……
Breaking News:
The Director of Administration, RSBC, Pastor Ebi Ogolo called me this morning that our Director of News, Mrs. Priestba Anthony Nwokocha was kidnapped along Slaughter to YKC yesterday evening within the hour of 7pm to 8pm on her way home from work. Please, we need your assistance to reach out to all relevant security agencies for her quick release. Thanks”.

Prodding further, a family source disclosed that Mrs PRIESTBA ANTHONY NWOKOCHA was kidnapped in the presence of her husband.

Our source explained what transpired….

“Her car broke down along that Slaughter/YKC road, she called her husband, who later came with a mechanic to work on the car.

“It was in the presence of her husband and the mechanic that the kidnappers came and picked her up.

“They didn’t pick her husband or harm him, they just picked her and left”.

In the meantime, the Rivers State Police Command it has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers of the Journalist.

A text message by State Police Spokesperson, GRACE IRINGE-KOKO said the CP NWONYI POLYCARP has mandated a tactical team to ensure that the victim regains her freedom and reunites with her family.

Also, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council has described the abduction as inhuman, wicked and insensitive, especially as the Journalist is working for the good of the society.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Rivers NUJ, STANLEY JOB and Secretary, IKE WIGODO urged the Police and other security agencies to ensure her immediate and unconditional release.

The NUJ further called on the security agencies to ensure the arrest of the kidnappers and prosecute them to serve as deterrent to other criminal elements in the State.

The statement however, expressed confidence in CP NWONYI POLYCARP to rescue the Journalist, following his record of crime fighting in the State since his assumption of office.
